Way to go boys!by hummingbirdscc
Night racing on the Avenue continues to be a hit … fun for the cyclists and a great opportunity for the fans to come out and cheer their favourite wheelmen! All of us in North America can only look on at a distance and feel the jealousy of not being to compete in these types of events … congrats to the Trinidad & Tobago Cycling Federation.

Cycling is not just a summer passion. For the peloton members, who enjoy year round 30C weather, in TnT you have multiple kits consisting of a variety of bib-shorts and cycling jerseys. For the peloton members, that enjoy four seasons…….well at least 3 seasons (Winter and that 4 letter word…..Snow…..is a love – hate relationship) you need to dive into the basement and flush out all the cycling clothing that is associated with ” Thermal” and “Windstopper”. September ushers in our Fall Solstice Season on Sept. 22 and along with it the winds arrive with a dash of chill in the air.
You do need extra time to prepare as you gear up to face the cooler temperatures and you will definitely get a rude awakening if you venture out for that ride and neglected one of the following:
Thermal Base Layer Jersey, Arm Warmers, Bib Shorts, Knee Warmers, Cycling Jersey, Windstopper Vest, Wool Socks, Windstopper Shoe Covers, Thermal Hat, Full-Fingered Gloves, Leg Warmers if the temperatures are hovering below 10C. These are necessities if you are going to enjoy the vibrant fall colors as you cycle.
As we roll through the country side leaves are abundant in a spectrum of colors -orange, yellow, red. The winds do wreak havoc at times as the robust Arctic Air starts streaming in and you are encouraged to firmly lock your digits around your bicicletta as if it were your baby. All it takes is a sudden gust and the pavement and you will become close mates. We were out several weeks ago and encountered Crosswinds that were absolutely brutal. You can prepare for cold weather, however, when these dreaded Crosswinds resurrect be prepared to change your original ride route.
Personally there is no better time for cycling than Fall. Temperatures hovering around 8C to18C with absolutely no humidity, vibrant fall colours, the air is crisp and fresh, brilliant sunshine and yes no sunblock required because most skin is covered. The peloton has lots to be Thankful for as we ride into this Thanksgiving Holiday Season – Health, Family and Friends…………and yes thanks to our Peloton Brothers……..Happy Thanksgiving………
