The boys were at it again yesterday, this time racing on the road on the relatively flat, but this sometimes wind-swept return course between Barataria and San Fernando.
The Elite cyclist covered this course of roughly 95 – 100 kms in just under 2 hours and 10 minutes. Rough calculations would suggest an average speed of over 45 kph!
In the Masters 40 – 49, Marlon was 3rd while Peter H was 3rd in the Masters 60 – 69.
Congrats to our other cyclists who entered this event.
Special thanks to Randy for the team support!
Details of all the results
Oh where to start …
So much for which to be thankful!
Safe rides for all of our cyclists … There were some spills on Friday night, but hopefully all are on the mend and will be back on their bikes soon!
Our cyclists managed a total of 19 top four finishes. We had 5 1st place finishes; 6 2nd place finishes; 5 3rd place finishes and 3 4th place finishes.
Sheldon was honoured by being chosen to ride for T&T and while he did not finish high in the standing he gave the internationals a run for their money in the 15km Scratch race.. He was in a dangerous break that had been away for a while until the eventual leader Varun Maharaj, closed the gap on the break to win. Congrats to Sheldon!
Rocky was named the most outstanding cyclist in the Masters 40 – 49 with 3 1st place finishes and 1 3rd. Truly outstanding!
Wayne Samuel was 2nd overall in the Masters 50 – 59 with 2 2nds, 1 3rd and 1 4th. Well done Wayne!
Joey was 2nd overall in the Masters 70+ with 1 st, 2 2nds and 1 3rd. He was only just nudged out of the overall win by his long time nemesis Earl Henry.
Chris Lamont was 3rd overall in the Elite 2 with 2 2nds and 2 3rds. A great meet for Chris on his first visit to T&T.

First, the bitter, Randy crashed last night and broke his collar bone. He is showing a sunny side to his situation as he smiles after being released from the hospital and commenting that his baby (his track bike) is okay. Get well soon.
Now for the sweet… the overall points results for the weekend had Joey being 1st overall in the Masters 70+; Marlon was 2nd overall in the Masters 40+; Wayne and Martin were 4th and 5th respectively in the Masters 50+.
Congrats to all our cyclists who put their bikes on the line for this track meet.
Time to get ready for the Easter Grand Prix that goes next weekend.

Well well, it looks like someone want to join the flock … An Open Road Challenge Accepted friend photo bombed our team picture at the Barracuda Track League on Saturday Night! Nice to see this camaraderie at the track!
Two boys “from the cold” also joined the ranks – Chris to race Cat 2 and Vernon as coach.
After the first night of racing the results, the overall points standings are Joey 1st in the Masters 70+, Wayne 2nd in the Masters 50+ and Marlon 2nd in the Masters 40+.
Good luck tonight!
As a cyclist I know the reality of crashing, the relative infrequency of these events and the things I can do to stay out of trouble, however … I can not totally escape the reality that we are all pushing limits in bicycle racing and crashes do occur.
Our best wishes for a speedy recovery from road rash, bruise of pride and oh yes, repairs to beloved machines. Randy, Dominic and Peter H crashed on Friday night. While we are bruised there is still a lot to smile about … Podium finishes, first time racer Kerry, joining our ranks, and our teams courage and strength to be back on the track later in the weekend.

Best wishes to all of our Hummingbirds racing at this weekend’s Barracuda Track League to be held at Skinner Park.
Congratulations to Sheldon Ramjit for being selected to represent T&T at the upcoming Southern Games in the criterium event.
Sheldon has been performing very well, being the top local cyclist in the criterium series held earlier this year. The trophy in the picture is for his 3rd place overall finish in the series.
We extend best wishes and continued success to Sheldon and the team in the busy weeks of cycling ahead.
Joey lead the way, being unbeaten in 4 events (2 500 events, 1 2 lap and 1 3 lap) in the Masters 70+ category for the 2 nights. Well done Joey.

Marlon is coming into form with 4 podiums in the Masters 40-49 category. He was 1st and 2nd in the 500 events; 2nd in the Elimination and then 3rd in the 500 for Masters Open.
