Last weekend was the final weekend of the National Track Championships held at Arima Velodrome. It featured the Elite and Junior Categories and the rain delayed Masters and Juvenile categories.
Sheldon Ramjit had a great weekend, and is Trinidad and Tobago’s Elite Men’s National Points Race champion, the silver medalist in the Scratch Race and the bronze medalist in the Individual Pursuit and Omnium event.
Combining the two weekends, the Masters results are as follows
In the Masters 70+, Joey Nunes came away as National Champion in 4 events – the Individual Pursuit, Scratch Race, the Time Trial and the Points race. He captured the Silver in the Sprint. This is a truly awesome performance.
In the Masters 65 – 69, Peter Hernandez was the National Champion in the Individual Pursuit and the Scratch Race. He was on the 2nd step for the Sprint, the Time Trial and the Points Race. Well done Peter!
In the Masters 60 – 64, Kelvin Caesar managed a silver in the Individual Pursuit and a 4th place finish in the Scratch Race.
In the Masters 50 – 59, Wayne Samuel captured silver in the Individual Pursuit and the Sprint and bronze in the Scratch Race. The club had another strong showing at the recent Masters segment of the championships!
Joey continues his winning ways with in the Masters 70+. He came away with two golds, one in the Individual Pursuit and the Scratch and one silver in the Sprint. He was racing against the strong competition that comes from Earl Henry and Lennox Parris.
In the Masters 65-69, Peter H also came away with two golds and one silver. He was atop the podium for both the Individual Pursuit and the Scratch. He had to ‘settle’ for silver in the sprint.
In the Masters 60 – 64 Kelvin was back on the track and managed a silver in the Individual Pursuit and a 4th in the scratch.
In the Masters 55 – 59, Wayne S was a strong contender with 2 silver and one bronze, while Martin W finished with one silver and one bronze. Martin was 3rd to Wayne in the Individual Pursuit, while he was 2nd, in front of Wayne in the Scratch.
In the Masters 45 – 49 Marlon was 2nd to Wendell Charles in three rides in the Sprint and 2nd again in the Individual Pursuit.
Disappointingly, the field for these National Championships was very small. Let’s hope that the Federation reviews the reasons for this showing and takes action to spur more participation among the “more seasoned” cyclists.
We will update the results for Day 3 as they become available.
We are looking forward to the Elite and Junior competition that goes from May 5 – 9!by hummingbirdscc
