The National Track Championships were held from May 5 to 7 at the Arima Velodrome.
We had a smaller squad of cyclists as Marlon and Rocky are still recovering from serious spills. Get well boys!
Joey Nunes was in against some very tough competition in the likes of Pat Nelson, Ronald Peters and Lennox Parris in the Masters 70+. Joey managed 4 podiums – 3rd in the Individual Pursuit, 2nd in the scratch, 3rd in the 500M and 3rd again in the Points race.
Peter Hernandez was in against his long time rivals Cyril Fook and Desmond Roberts in the masters 60+. It is also good to see Robert Farrell back in the fray! Peter captured the National Jersey in the Pursuit and had two more 3 place finishes, one in the Scratch race and the other in the Points race.
Wayne Samuel was very consistent capturing four second place finishes in the Masters 50+. He was in against tough Sean Assam. Wayne podium finishes were in the Flying 200 /Sprint, the 500M and the Points race. Martin Wharwood also raced in Masters 50+ but was kept off the podium by the strong competition.
While we thank the TTCF for putting on this meeting, we need to understand why the Nationals Championships were not held at the new Couva Velodrome and why the age categories did not follow the UCI standard of 5 year increments … this last item is certainly worth following up before the National Road Championships.
